In 1992, the Academy of Model Aeronotics created a Club Leader program with three levels of accomplishment (Bronze, Silver & Gold) to recognize clubs which met certain criteria for safety, community services and organization. The Rhode Island Aeromodelers Club was the first club to attain the Gold Leader status.
